What is a production pipeline?

Imagine being able to pinpoint every stage of your business product from the point of developing the idea from scratch to advertising it on Time Square’s large television screen.

Yes, that is basically what the concept of production pipeline generally mean. In other words, a product pipeline is a series of products, either in a state of development, preparation, or production, developed and sold by a company, and ideally in different stages of their life cycle.

Any company’s main goal would be to have their products in the growth stage, which is the key stage for establishing a product’s position in a market, increasing sales, and improving profit margins; and the maturity stage, which is key to maintaining market share.

The Process in Production Pipeline

Generally, the main stages of the production pipeline involves 4 stages: brainstorming, development, testing, and the launch of the product.

In the brainstorming stage firms will come up with new ideas for possible products that a company can add to its product portfolio.

The firm will seek to find a product that meets unmet demand in a market. Once the brainstorming stages conjectures the final product, the development stage makes use of the firm’s different department that may contribute at this point, aiding with the design, creation and analysis and of the new product.

At any point along this stage the firm may decide to no longer pursue a product or bring the product to market and drop funding for it, taking a loss. Once the product has been made, the firm moves on to the testing stage where small group testers, such as a focus group, is used to predict the acceptance of the product.

If this initial testing proves successful, the firm will go on to use larger groups for a more reliable predictor of how the new product will be received by the public. Finally, if the testing is successful, then the end of the product pipeline is reached where the firm will then look to release the new product.

A well structured production pipeline is crucial in order to keep control of your sales process and to have a full view of your leads, opportunities and customers.

Using Odoo sales production and its services, you can manage the pipeline more smoothly: get organized by planning activities, manage lost opportunities, and manage multiple sales teams

Odoo Sales Pipeline

The Odoo sales pipeline software is a visual representation of your sales process, from the first contact to the final sale. It refers to the process by which you generate, qualify and close leads through your sales cycle.

Odoo Sales pipeline allows you to create and organize your stages or add/re-arrange stages.

In the Odoo sales pipeline software you can navigate the interface very swiftly: Go from the sales module, and then to your dashboard and click on the PIPELINE button of the desired sales team.

If you don’t have any sales team yet, you need to create one first. From the Kanban view of your pipeline, you can add stages by clicking on Add new column. 

When a column is created, Odoo will then automatically propose you to add another column in order to complete your process.

If you want to rearrange the order of your stages, you can easily do so by dragging and dropping the column you want to move to the desired location. You can add as many stages as you wish, even if Odoo advises you not having more than 6 in order to keep a clear pipeline. 

Odoo CRM Software to organize the Pipeline

Planning activities is the perfect way to keep on track with your work. Get reminded of what needs to be done and schedule the next activities to undertake using Odoo CRM software.

Your activities are available wherever you are in Odoo. It is easy to manage your priorities. Activities can be planned and managed from the chatters or in the kanban views.

A number of generic activities types are available by default in Odoo (e.g. call, email, meeting, etc.). Activities are planned for specific days. If you need to set hours, go with the Meeting activity type. When scheduling one, the calendar will simply open to let you select a time slot.

You can also manage multiple sales team or create a new sales channel with Odoo CRM software. In Odoo, you can manage several sales teams, departments or channels with specific sales processes.

To do so, we use the concept of Sales Channel. You can also add members to any channel; that way those members will see the pipeline structure of the sales channel when opening it.

Any lead/opportunity assigned to them will link to the sales channel. Therefore, you can only be a member of one channel. This will ease the process review of the team manager.

To see the operations and results of any sales channel at a glance, the sales manager also has access to the Sales Channel Dashboard under Reporting. It is shared with the whole ecosystem so every revenue stream is included in it: Sales, eCommerce, PoS, etc.
